NSPCC Stay Safe Online – Share Aware Campaign

May 24, 2017 by admin

Share Aware Campaign

Share Aware, from NSPCC and O2, gives parents all the tools they need to have regular and informed conversations with their child about staying safe online. Under 20% of parents discuss online safety regularly with their children but we want to get every family talking about their child’s life online, just as they would their day at school.

Parents can sign up to the Icebreaker email series and become an expert in their child’s online world in 6 weeks, follow our four simple steps to keeping kids safe online, watch our film ‘Safety advice from a 10 year old’ or visit Net Aware – our guide to your child’s social networks apps and games.

The internet is a great place for kids to be, being Share Aware makes it safer.

Suggested Tweets (NSPCC are asking people to tweet between 9am and 12 on launch morning, Tuesday 16th

  1. Just like in real life, kids need our help to stay safe online. Teach your child to be #ShareAware with @NSPCC and @O2 https://www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keeping-children-safe/share-aware/
  2. Teach your child to be #ShareAware online, with step-by-step advice from @NSPCC https://www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keeping-children-safe/share-aware/

Safer Internet Day 2017

February 15, 2017 by admin

At West Cornforth Primary School, we pride ourselves on being safe when we are online and using digital devices. There is an eCadet group that regularly helps and advises children in school. This group took over the teaching of digital literacy for Safer Internet Day 2017. They planned, resourced and delivered lessons to each class in school. The group received excellent feedback from both children and teachers! Well done to Emily, Ellie, Madison, Logan, Harvey, Caitlin, Robert, Joe and Harvey.

The children impeccably observed a 2 minute silence for Remembrance Day. They laid crosses on the grass as the names of fallen soldiers were read out from the Cenotaph. They were a credit to the school and to the village.

Durham Farmers’ Market 2016

October 19, 2016 by admin

A selection of children from the school took part in a Farmers’ Market Project in the summer term. The main purpose was to look at the Soil Association’s Food for Life project, learning about recipes and food preparation techniques which would have been popular 100 years ago, during the Great War.  The six month project has involved visits to Beamish Museum and Broom House Farm.  The pupils then opened their stall in Durham and sold the produce based on what they have learned to visitors to the market.
