Having worked as a Church of England parish priest in Durham Diocese for ten years I retrained in 1992 to become a qualified teacher, which I did for fifteen years. I was an RE Secondary specialist, and also taught English, History and Geography to GCSE. In my last five years of teaching, I worked at Abbey Hill Special School Stockton as Head of Humanities, and also taught performance music and cycle and motorcycle mechanics. In 2008 I became the full-time Anglican Chaplain at HMP Frankland (High Secure).
Since 2016, I have been working at St Antony’s Priory in Durham, leading workshops and training in meditation and spiritual direction, and acting as a spiritual director. In 2013 I moved into West Cornforth when I married a local woman. My step-son attended West Cornforth School until 2015, where he was happy and flourished. In addition to my step-son, I have two children and two grandchildren, in whose up-bringing I have played a major role. Since 2013 I have worked in a voluntary capacity as a local parish priest in West Cornforth. I am also a Canon of Durham Cathedral. I have had a season ticket at Sunderland AFC for many years. My wife and I compete for Ferryhill Wheelers in bicycle road time trials, having won many races and awards over several decades.
