I grew up in Spennymoor, attending King Street & Durham Road schools. At the age of eighteen, I left home to go to London to train as a Salvation Army Officer at the William Booth Memorial Training College. Upon Commissioning & Ordination, I was appointed to Scotland, where I spent 25 very happy years ministering in:
- Paisley, East Kilbride, Leven, St. Monance, Buckhaven, Annan, St.Andrews, Cumnock, Kirkconnel, Strathaven, Stonehouse, Larkhall, Wishaw & Glasgow.
During this time, I married and had one son. When my husband was retirement age I returned to Spennymoor and quickly found a place of ministry in the North East.
For several years I have covered one Sunday a month at corps where they are without an officer and during the summer months, I visit many different corps (churches) to preach, thus enabling the resident officers to take holidays.
In the winter months, I conduct the occasional service in some of our local churches.
For the past 21 years I’ve been involved in school’s ministry and in 2011 started at West Cornforth Primary School, where each week I teach tambourines to children in Key Stage 1. During this time, we have played as a group :
1. In school for special occasions
2. In Church at the school Christmas Carol Service
3. In the local community centre for the Village Carol Service
4. In the local library for a Christmas Carol Service
In 2016, I was approached about being a School Governor and greatly enjoy the opportunity to work more closely with the people of the local community and staff members of West Cornforth Primary School.
The children of our school are a joy to work with, many happy hours are spent with them-both in the classroom and out on school trips.
